Volleyball is the definitive naturist sport. Where swimming is solitary and petanque is unhurried, volleyball is the athletic heart of clothing-optional culture, the social magnet of naturist resorts on three continents, and the only sport with a genuinely global network of tournaments played without a uniform. The German naturist federation counts it as the number one club sport in the country; the White Thorn Lodge in Pennsylvania fills a schedule with a ten-day tournament now in its sixth decade.
This directory documents every verified nude volleyball venue we could locate worldwide: each entry lists the number of courts, whether the net is provided or has to be carried in, whether the venue runs on open pickup games or on private club groups, and any recurring events. Venues fall into three categories: permanent courts at naturist resorts and campgrounds, municipal nets on designated clothing-optional beaches, and BYO-net wild spots.
How the record works: every venue below was verified against current sources in 2026. Where our researchers could not verify a facility – or found a “famous” venue that no longer operates as advertised – the entry says so explicitly.
Where to Play
United States and Canada
White Thorn Lodge, Darlington, Pennsylvania. The flagship of the entire sport. Four-plus courts, mixture of permanent sand and expanded grass, with commercial net systems on site. The original Superbowl of Naked Volleyball runs ten days around Labor Day (September 4-14, 2026; the 55th edition), drawing more than 90 co-ed teams from across North America, with competitive 4s and 2s divisions and a glow-in-the-dark night bracket. The culture runs from highly competitive to casual open pickup; nets are always provided.
Lake Como Family Nudist Resort, Lutz, Florida. The volleyball capital of the South: fourteen courts at the West Grove Sport Center, two regulation sand and twelve manicured grass, all with permanent nets, referee stands, and lines. The Superbowl South Nude Volleyball Tournament (March 6-15, 2026; 22nd annual) spans ten days with co-ed sand 4s, women’s grass 3s, and men’s divisions. Daily pickup fills the gaps between tournaments.
Sunny Rest Resort, Palmerton, Pennsylvania. Four courts (two sand, two hard), permanent nets, and a busy schedule: the Sunnybowl flagship in July (July 11-13, 2026), August Heat in late August, and a Spring Fling opener in June. Open pickup every summer weekend.
Cypress Cove Nudist Resort, Kissimmee, Florida. Two-plus courts: a regulation sand court near the lake complex plus a dedicated water-volleyball pool net. Daily open pickup assembles around 2:00 PM, with co-ed 3s and 4s scrambles over Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends.
Paradise Lakes Resort, Lutz, Florida. One sand court and one pool water-volleyball setup, nets provided; the culture tilts toward afternoon water volleyball and holiday-weekend scrambles.
DeAnza Springs Resort, Jacumba Hot Springs, California. One sand court and one pool setup; scheduled water volleyball sessions run Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 2:00 PM, alongside casual weekend sand pickup.
Oaklake Trails Naturist Park, Depew, Oklahoma. One sand court plus a pool court, permanent nets. The signature event is the July Shoot the Moon 6’s, played at night under floodlights, with an annual water-volleyball buy-in tournament.
Glen Eden Sun Club, Corona, California. One regulation sand court and a water-volleyball pool; daily member-and-guest pickup and summer holiday scrambles.
The audit additions. Star Ranch in McDade, Texas runs two sand courts plus pool water volleyball with AANR South Central tournament play; Sunsport Gardens in Loxahatchee, Florida pairs a community sand court with daily pool games; Caliente near Tampa fields three courts across sand and pool; Turtle Lake Resort in Michigan builds its summer around holiday-weekend water volleyball; and Solair in Woodstock, Connecticut keeps two regulation sand courts and hosts the AANR Eastern Region championships. Rooster Rock State Park in Oregon’s Columbia Gorge carries a dedicated sand court in its clothing-optional section, the net semi-permanently maintained by regulars.
Wreck Beach, Vancouver, British Columbia. The great public exception: six regulation sand courts with permanent nets maintained by the Wreck Beach Preservation Society and player volunteers, and an exceptionally open pickup culture running daily from May through September, recreational 6v6 to competitive 2v2. The Bare Buns Volleyball Tournament lands in July or August.
Bare Oaks Family Naturist Park, East Gwillimbury, Ontario. Three-plus courts (one sand, several grass), permanent nets, open weekend pickup. The Bare Bash/FCN tournament is scheduled for July 10-12, 2026, and the Lee Baxandall memorial tournament fills the summer with co-ed 6v6.
Black’s Beach, La Jolla, California. Fifty-plus years of continuous play make this the Pacific coast’s most storied public nude volleyball court. One primary court operates most days at the foot of the Torrey Pines Gliderport trail, with semi-permanent posts and nets maintained by regulars and the Blacks Beach Friends group; a second pop-up court appears on peak summer weekends, and the winter swells that strip the sand berm push play toward the bluff toe until the wide flat sand returns in late spring. The culture is casual, welcoming, and open to every skill level. The Black’s Beach Bares ran documented tournaments from the 1990s onward – Fox 5 San Diego covered the tradition, and a 1996 San Diego Reader feature called the net “the icon of the nude spirit.” The court sits squarely on the state-park-adjacent stretch where ranger tolerance carries the clothing-optional tradition.
The public BYO tier. Haulover Beach in Miami hosts a high-energy weekend pickup scene on one intermittently-netted court; county net-post debates never quite settle, so regulars carry pop-up nets. Lake Tahoe’s Secret Cove and South Padre’s UFO Beach (four-wheel-drive access) both offer bare sand and nothing else: bring your own net, lines, and players.

Mexico, the Caribbean, and South America
The informal audit tier. Gunnison Beach in New Jersey sustains one or two courts near the beach plaza, nets maintained seasonally by regulars; Playalinda’s Lot 13 crowd raises pop-up nets on summer weekends between rocket-launch gaps; Collins Beach on Sauvie Island plays on peak days; Slovakia’s lake sections at Zlaté Piesky and Košariská host casual games; Böda Sand’s naturist stretch on Öland borrows pop-up nets while the textile center keeps its own courts; and Galheta in Florianópolis and Sandy Bay in Cape Town round out the roster with sunset pop-up play.
Hedonism II, Negril, Jamaica. The Caribbean’s marquee venue: an oceanfront sand court on the nude side plus a pool net, with beach volleyball as the resort’s signature day activity. Scheduled daily matches at 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM, fiercely contested guest-versus-staff games, and weekly shootouts. Nets always provided.
Hidden Beach Au Naturel Resort, Riviera Maya, Mexico. One dedicated oceanfront sand court with professional boundary markers, and daily afternoon games organized by the resort’s activity staff.
Desire Riviera Maya and Desire Pearl, Mexico. Two courts per property (one sand, one pool), commercial nets provided, daily games led by the Enticeteam animation crew.
Zipolite, Oaxaca, Mexico. No permanent courts: temporary nets appear during the Festival Nudista Zipolite (first weekend of February), with open tournaments played on the Pacific sand; the rest of the year is BYO pickup.
Praia do Pinho, Santa Catarina, Brazil. Brazil’s pioneer official nude beach (1987) keeps one permanent sand court near the kiosks; the net is maintained on site and open pickup integrates with the broader Brazilian beach-sports culture, plus regional naturist meets in the southern summer.
Tambaba, Paraiba, Brazil. One sand court; the net goes up in peak season courtesy of the local naturist association, with relaxed open pickup beneath the cliffs.
Colina do Sol, Taquara, Rio Grande do Sul. The southern hemisphere’s largest naturist village: two courts (one regulation by the sports center, one lakefront), permanent nets, internal leagues, and host duties for Brazilian federation (FBrN/CONGRENAT) sports competitions.
Praia do Abrico, Rio de Janeiro. Informal sand play with BYO or association-erected weekend nets, split between standard volleyball and futevolei, the foot-volley hybrid Brazil does better than anyone.
Playa Chihuahua, Punta del Este, Uruguay. One seasonal sand court, net erected December through March; the January/February Encuentro Naturista adds volleyball to its sports program, and the sunset pickup scene is famously social.
Playa Luna, Valparaiso, Chile. Rugged cove, zero infrastructure, BYO nets: informal games organized by visiting Club Naturista de Chile members.
Europe
France. Cap d’Agde’s naturist village beach carries two to three seasonal courts near the central beach clubs, with high-energy pickup from mid-morning to sunset. CHM Montalivet, the 1950 birthplace of international naturist organization, runs four permanent courts and is the historic heartland of European naturist volleyball, hosting the FFN summer cups. Euronat fields three courts plus a weekly summer cup; La Jenny and S erignan Plage Nature keep one permanent court each, with S erignan’s dune-front court famous for sunset family games. The French audit additions: Arnaoutchot in the Landes pairs a multi-sport court with a beach volleyball zone on its Atlantic naturist sand, while the Village Naturiste Aphrodite at Port-Leucate runs two courts directly on its Mediterranean naturist beach.
Spain. Vera Playa’s El Playazo carries two municipal seasonal courts near the naturist beach bars, with multinational daily pickup; Charco del Palo on Lanzarote keeps one community court near the tidal pool; El Portus camping in Murcia provides one court. The wild tiers – Es Trenc, Cantarrijan, Maspalomas – are strictly BYO.
Croatia. Valalta in Rovinj maintains three to four top-tier courts with weekly guest tournaments, and Koversada near Vrsar fields four, two of them floodlit, both resorts anchoring the Alpe-Adria inter-club circuit; the smaller Istrian camps (Kazela, Soline) keep one to two courts each. The Ulika resort at Poreč adds another Istrian option with its own beach court.
Netherlands and Germany. Flevo-Natur keeps two permanent courts and stages the Dutch naturist championship. On the German Baltic coast, Rosenfelder Strand runs three to four beach courts and hosts the Ostsee-Pokal (August 1-2, 2026); nationwide, more than 100 DFK clubs hold one to three courts each and feed the German naturist volleyball championship system, the largest organized league in the sport. The 2026 audit extends the federation map: Belgium’s Athena network fields two verified grounds, with Le Perron in the Ardennes hosting the Pentecost naturist tournament, a four-a-side fixture of the European calendar; Hungary’s Balatonberény naturist camping keeps a lakefront sand court on the Balaton shore from May to September; the Czech federation (ČNFH) runs one of Europe’s most organized national leagues, its sand courts at Antošovice and the Křetínka reservoir feeding the Věstonická Venuše tournament and the Czech naturist championships; Denmark’s Solbakken camping under Danske Naturister and Finland’s Heitola center under the Finnish Naturist Federation both maintain club courts, Heitola’s ringing with Midsummer tournaments; South Africa’s SunEden resort carries two courts and the Gauteng association’s regional competitions; and Australia’s Victorian federation grounds stage the ANF national sports carnivals.
Italy, Greece, Portugal, Bulgaria. Rome’s Capocotta is the liveliest BYO scene in Europe, with regulars raising pop-up nets near the dune front all summer; Ravenna’s Bassona runs informal beach-bar nets. Vritomartis on Crete provides one permanent court with weekly guest tournaments, while the famous Greek coves remain BYO territory. Portugal’s naturist campgrounds provide single multi-sport courts, its official beaches none. Varna’s Nirvana Beach on Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast sets up one seasonal court at the nude boundary.
United Kingdom, Austria, Switzerland. The Naturist Foundation’s Kent estate keeps two permanent courts and the August Bank Holiday Aztec tournament; British Naturism clubs each field a court and an inter-club championship. The Austrian and Swiss federations maintain courts at their parks (Lobau, Sonnensport, Freilichtpark Thielle) and rotate the Alpe-Adria trophy, a fixture for over half a century.
Asia, Africa, and Oceania
Ga’ash Beach, Israel. The Middle East’s energetic exception: zero municipal infrastructure, but a vibrant BYO culture with pop-up poles and boundary lines raised on Friday afternoons and Saturdays, popular with Tel Aviv naturist and LGBT communities.
Maslin Beach, South Australia. The country’s first legal nude beach (1975) has no permanent courts, but its Pilwarren Maslin Beach nude games, running since 1983, is one of the southern hemisphere’s naturist sports institutions. Twin Falls retreat in New South Wales keeps one court for member play.
New Zealand. Every major NZNF member park (Katikati, Pineglades, Sunseekers) maintains a court, and volleyball is compulsory programming at the federation’s national rally, held over the December-January turn of the year with a national championship trophy contested for more than six decades.
Thailand and Japan. Boutique naturist resorts around Phuket and Pattaya offer on-demand portable nets for small private groups (the Oriental Village Chiang Mai has closed). Japan has no public nude beach volleyball at all: naturism there lives inside private onsen and club grounds.
How to Actually Get a Game
Resort courts solve every logistics problem: nets, lines, and players are provided, and day-guest passes open most schedules. Municipal nets (Wreck Beach, Vera Playa, Cap d’Agde) run on genuinely open pickup – arrive mid-morning or late afternoon in season. BYO spots reward preparation: a portable pop-up net, boundary lines, and a pre-arranged group, since spontaneous players cannot be counted on.
The Honest Zeros
Three corrections to the internet record. Grand Lido and Couples resorts in Jamaica have courts only on their clothing-required main beaches; their nude islands offer no volleyball. Bonaire’s Sorobon, a clothing-optional institution for two decades, now operates strictly clothing-mandatory outside rare private charters. And the “nude volleyball resorts” of the Kenyan coast (Samya, Kikambala) do not exist: public nudism is prohibited under Kenyan law and the listings are misattributions. Palm Springs’ Desert Sun Resort, long a tournament host, has closed.

The 2026 audit corrections. More Mesa in Santa Barbara is a treasured clothing-optional beach but carries no volleyball, the city’s courts sitting at textile East Beach. The Hungarian names “Kolonics” and “Csillebérc” attach to memorial athletics and a Budapest youth complex, not naturist volleyball. Slovenia’s Portorož naturist strip is too narrow for courts. Vassaliki on Kefalonia has ceased operating. South Africa’s Harmonie club and Australia’s Ada Bay and Tanganekald entries are defunct. The Firefly in Bocas del Toro is a yoga eco-hotel rather than a nudist venue, and Temptation Cancun is topless-optional only, full nudity banned on the property. A French listing called “Sunna Camp” does not exist; Vielle-Saint-Girons’s naturist village is Arnaoutchot.
