The southern Plains are the last major American region without a dedicated naturist guide on this site, and the reason is structural rather than mysterious: the coasts and the mountains got the beaches, and this part of the country got private land, good clubs, and a legal code so uniform that one page can hold it. Oklahoma anchors the region. Missouri quietly outperforms its reputation. The rest of the map is honest zeros with useful statutes attached.
Oaklake Trails: The Regional Anchor
Oaklake Trails Naturist Park in Depew, off historic Route 66 between Tulsa and Oklahoma City, was founded in 1984 and covers 420 acres of rolling oak forest. It is a fully chartered AANR and AANR-Midwest family resort with a large clubhouse and restaurant, a heated Olympic-sized pool, a big hot tub, sand volleyball courts that serve as a regional tournament hub, a 5K trail course through the woods, full-hookup RV sites, rental cabins, tent camping, and residential home sites. Day visitors and campers are welcome alongside lot owners, which makes it the most accessible landed resort for hundreds of miles.
Its calendar is the region’s calendar. The AANR 5K club run series stops here, the sand courts host AANR-Midwest volleyball tournaments, and the night-volleyball “Shoot the Moon” sixes event has become a summer signature.

Kansas and Missouri
Prairie Haven Nudist Park in Scranton, about thirty miles south of Topeka, is Kansas’s one landed AANR family club: 32 acres with a pool, clubhouse, RV hookups, and camping. One clarification on a nearby name: Gaea Retreat in McLouth is a clothing-optional pagan and eclectic retreat center, not an AANR club, and the distinction matters when you are reading a directory.
Missouri is the region’s quiet overperformer, with three private grounds. The Forty Acre Club in Lonedell, about forty miles southwest of St. Louis, was founded in 1968 and runs 40 acres with a pool, hot tub, clubhouse, RV sites, and volleyball courts. Sunset Mountain Campground in Noel, in the McDonald County Ozarks, is a gated hilltop with a hot tub, outdoor showers, and scenic RV and tent sites. Serenity Mountain Retreat in Piedmont is a rustic family retreat in Wayne County.
The Zeros, With Receipts
Nebraska has no landed clubs and no public clothing-optional land; Neb. Rev. Stat. § 28-806 makes public indecency a Class III misdemeanor for knowing exposure likely to cause affront or alarm. Iowa is equally bare, and the old names that circulate, Oakwood and Bare Oaks, are defunct; Iowa Code § 709.9 defines indecent exposure as a serious misdemeanor requiring intent to arouse, gratify, intimidate, or offend. Arkansas has no active landed resorts or public areas; Ark. Code Ann. § 5-14-112 covers exposure with purpose to arouse or gratify or in a manner likely to cause affront or alarm. And Kansas has a statute correction worth printing: the indecency provision is K.S.A. § 21-5513, lewd and lascivious behavior; 21-5515 is sexual extortion, and it gets cited in the wrong place constantly.
Oklahoma’s own statute, 21 O.S. § 1021, follows the same intent-based pattern. The practical result across all five states is identical: no public nude beaches, no tolerated swim holes, and a healthy private club network concentrated in Oklahoma, Kansas, and Missouri, with Nebraska, Iowa, and Arkansas offering nothing at all.
Why the Plains Are Worth the Drive
Because the clubs here are what a naturist resort is supposed to be. Oaklake’s 420 acres are not a boutique hotel with a pool; they are a forest with a volleyball tournament in it. Forty Acre has been running since before most of its guests were born. And the distances are the point: from Tulsa, Kansas City, and St. Louis, a weekend at a 1984 AANR park with a 5K course and a night volleyball bracket is the least crowded naturist experience in the country.
