Big Nude Boat 2027: The Complete Guide to the 11-Night Nude Cruise From Miami

The Big Nude Boat 2027 is the largest clothing-optional charter afloat, and it sails from Miami on 15 February 2027 for eleven nights aboard Norwegian Jewel. It is not a themed deck on a regular cruise, and it is not a lifestyle charter: the entire 2,376-passenger ship is taken over by Bare Necessities Tour & Travel, a 36-year-old company that has run full-ship nude charters since 1990. When the ship is at sea, the default state of dress is none.

Below is the realistic picture: the confirmed dates and ports, what the cabins actually cost, the rules that get people removed from the vessel, and the practical details most coverage of this cruise leaves out.

What the Big Nude Boat 2027 actually is

Bare Necessities was founded in Austin, Texas, by Nancy and Tom Tiemann and has organised more than 65 full-ship clothing-optional charters across three decades. It charters an entire Norwegian Cruise Line vessel each February under an ongoing agreement with NCL, which is why the ship is genuinely nude rather than confined to a fenced-off deck.

For 2027 the operator has moved up in ship size. The 2025 and 2026 editions used Norwegian Pearl; 2027 switches to Norwegian Jewel, a 93,502-gross-tonne, 965-foot Jewel-class ship carrying 2,376 guests with 1,069 crew. Nudity applies to passengers only; crew stay clothed at all times.

Demand is the reason for the upgrade. Bare Necessities’ leadership has reported that more than 70 per cent of Big Nude Boat passengers are repeat customers, and that the charters routinely sell out well in advance. Passengers must be 21 or older.

The confirmed 2027 itinerary, port by port

Eleven nights, round trip from PortMiami, with four full days at sea and six port calls. This is the published schedule.

  • Mon 15 Feb — Miami, Florida. Depart 4:00pm.
  • Tue 16 Feb — Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas. 7:00am to 6:00pm. NCL’s private island is chartered for the day, so the beach itself is clothing-optional. This is the only place on the itinerary where you can be nude with your feet in sand.
  • Wed 17 Feb — Nude day at sea.
  • Thu 18 Feb — San Juan, Puerto Rico. Arrive 3:30pm, depart 11:59pm, a deliberately late window that allows an evening in Old San Juan.
  • Fri 19 Feb — Road Town, Tortola, British Virgin Islands. 8:00am to 5:00pm.
  • Sat 20 Feb — Basseterre, St Kitts. 8:00am to 5:00pm.
  • Sun 21 Feb — St John’s, Antigua. 9:00am to 6:00pm.
  • Mon 22 Feb — Nude day at sea.
  • Tue 23 Feb — Samaná, Dominican Republic. 10:00am to 6:00pm.
  • Wed 24 Feb and Thu 25 Feb — Nude days at sea.
  • Fri 26 Feb — Arrive Miami 7:00am.

February is peak humpback whale season in Samaná Bay, which runs roughly mid-January to late March, and excursions to the bay and the El Limón waterfall run from the pier. Book through the ship for a guaranteed return before departure: independent tours at a tender port are the most common way cruise passengers miss the boat.

What it costs, honestly

Fares are per person, based on two sharing, and include taxes, port fees and prepaid crew gratuities of $406.54 per guest. Published list prices for 2027:

  • Inside cabin: from $2,410 per person
  • Oceanview: $3,110  |  Balcony: $4,330
  • Club Balcony Suite: $5,025  |  Aft-facing balcony: $5,920
  • Haven suites: $8,100 to $33,565, the top being the three-bedroom Garden Villa

Travelling solo means paying the single-occupancy rate, which roughly doubles the fare: $4,410 for an inside cabin. A third or fourth guest in the same cabin pays $1,010. Current early-booking codes cut between $400 and $1,000 depending on cabin category, which brings the practical entry point to about $2,010 per person. Deposits run from 25 per cent to 100 per cent of the total depending on how close to sailing you book, with the balance split into instalments.

For context, that is broadly in line with a mainstream 11-night Caribbean balcony cruise once flights are added.

The rules, and why they are enforced

This is the section that matters most, because the etiquette is stricter than most first-timers expect. Bare Necessities operates as an affiliated club of the American Association for Nude Recreation and its charter depends on keeping NCL willing to renew it.

The core rules:

  • Nudity is permitted at sea and at anchor. The moment the ship is docked alongside a pier, everyone dresses, including on private balconies, until an announcement says otherwise. Displaying yourself toward another vessel in port or toward port officials is explicitly prohibited.
  • Clothing is required in the main and speciality dining rooms, and at the captain’s reception. Bathrobes do not count as clothing. The self-serve buffet, by contrast, is clothes-free.
  • Sit on a towel, always. A fresh beach towel is provided daily, and stacks are left outside common areas for anyone who forgets. This one is non-negotiable and it is the rule newcomers break most often.
  • No photography without consent, and no-photo zones around pools and dance venues. Devices can be confiscated. If you already worry about cameras in naturist spaces, our guide to smart glasses on nude beaches covers how this is evolving.
  • No lingerie, fetish wear, or overt sexual behaviour of any kind. Solicitation is grounds for removal.
  • Violations mean disembarkation at the next port, without refund, and you arrange your own transport home.

Cruise line employees are never nude, and on smaller charters the ship dresses when local performers come aboard.

What a nude day at sea is like

The rhythm is the appeal: four sea days spread through the sailing rather than clustered, so the trip alternates between activity and complete nothing. The pool deck, the forward-facing Spinnaker Lounge, the Mandara Spa thermal suite and the fitness centre are all clothing-optional outside the dining rooms. Evenings bring themed parties and a passenger talent show, plus the Big Nude Tournament of Champions, a volleyball final whose qualifiers run at naturist resorts through the year. Our directory of nude volleyball explains those qualifiers.

For anyone who has only experienced naturism at a resort or a beach, the striking thing is scale. Two thousand people, and by the second sea day nobody is looking.

Port days: what is legal ashore, and what is not

None of the six ports is a naturist destination, and nude sunbathing on a public beach in the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, the BVI, St Kitts, Antigua or the Dominican Republic is not legal. The ship’s rules exist partly to protect the charter’s reputation in exactly these places. Treat port days as textile days: Brimstone Hill Fortress in St Kitts, Nelson’s Dockyard in Antigua, the Old San Juan forts, the waterfalls of Samaná.

If you want a realistic read on which Caribbean islands have any tolerated nude beach at all, our Caribbean nude beach reality check covers the DR, Puerto Rico, USVI, BVI and Belize in detail. The short version: almost none, and the ones that exist are private or informal.

Getting there and the Miami pre-cruise night

PortMiami is about 20 minutes from Miami International Airport depending on traffic. Fly in the day before; a 4:00pm departure gives no margin if your flight slips. Downtown Miami and Brickell hotels are the practical choice and most run terminal shuttles.

To start the tan early, Haulover Beach is a 25-minute drive north of the port and the only legally recognised nude beach in Florida; Bare Necessities recommends it as a pre-cruise option. Our Florida naturism guide covers the rest of the state if you extend the trip.

February is the best weather of the Caribbean year: dry season, highs around 28 to 29C in San Juan, sea temperatures near 26C, low humidity. Bring high-factor reef-safe sunscreen, a wide-brim hat and a light layer for air-conditioned dining rooms. Sunburn is the most common complaint on nude sailings, and the sea breeze hides how much sun you are getting.

Booking practicalities

  • Book early. Categories sell out in order of price, and the early-booking codes are not combinable with later promotions.
  • Passport: valid and expiring at least 60 days beyond the sailing date. US citizens on a closed-loop cruise can technically travel on a birth certificate and ID, but the BVI and Dominican Republic calls make a passport the sensible choice.
  • Travel insurance: the operator sells its own policy through Bare Harbor; a standard policy covering cruise interruption is fine and cheaper.
  • Age: 21 minimum, no exceptions, no children aboard.

The honest verdict

The Big Nude Boat 2027 is the easiest way to try large-scale social nudity, because a ship removes the two things that make first-timers hesitate: working out where nudity is acceptable, and worrying about who is watching. The rules are explicit, the enforcement is real, and 70 per cent of the passengers have done it before.

What it is not is cheap, intimate, or a naturist pilgrimage. It is a big mainstream cruise where nobody wears a swimsuit at sea. If you want the opposite end of the spectrum, three days on a Mexican beach with 5,000 people and no ship at all, the Encuentro Nudista Zipolite 2027 runs 28 to 30 January, two weeks before this sailing, and costs almost nothing.

Frequently asked questions

Can you really be nude anywhere on the ship? Almost everywhere. Not while docked, not in the dining rooms, not at the captain’s reception. Everywhere else, yes, including the pool deck, spa, gym and bars.

Is it a swinger cruise? No. It is AANR-affiliated and non-sexual by policy, and the operator says plainly that lifestyle travellers are not the right fit.

What do you pack? Less than you think. Casual clothes for six port days and dinners, sandals, two hats, reef-safe sunscreen, and a cover-up if you prefer one between venues. Towels are free and unlimited.
