Venezuela might be the most spectacular naturist destination you cannot visit. The country owns 2,800 kilometers of Caribbean coast, an archipelago so pristine it looks unreal, and a tepui interior that inspired Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Lost World – and it has zero legal nude beaches, zero naturist federation, and a US travel advisory that reads like a hostage negotiation. This guide tells both halves honestly: the geography that makes Venezuela a bucket-list naturist fantasy, and the 2026 reality that parks it behind a wall.
The Legal Picture: No Official Anything
Venezuelan law criminalizes public nudity under Article 381 of the Penal Code – ultraje al pudor público, the offense of outraging public decency, punishable by three to fifteen months. There is no officially designated naturist beach anywhere in the national territory, no sanctioned club, and no INF-affiliated federation. And Venezuela adds a twist that matters more than the statute: nudity functions as an extortion trigger. Reports consistently describe police and National Guard using nudity or near-nudity as a pretext to shake down travelers, and a foreigner caught exposed on a public beach has no good outcome available – a fine would be the lucky version.
The Clandestine Scene: Real, Organized, Discreet
Here is what makes Venezuela different from a true zero-zone: there is a genuine naturist community, and it has been quietly organizing for over two decades. Nudistas Venezolanos, founded in 2003, is a family-oriented naturist community that runs group excursions to the country’s worst-kept secrets, and it is effectively the only door into Venezuelan naturism.
The flagship is Playa Mono Manso, a 130-meter jungle cove near the fishing village of Chuspa, a couple of hours east of Caracas – reachable by hired fishing boat and known so widely among locals that it functions as a tolerated spot rather than a secret. The scene’s second pillar is wild camping at Playa Uricane near Choroní, the colonial cocoa-port town on the central coast. Beyond that, the playbook is private: posada buyouts in coastal towns, and chartered boats in Los Roques, where a captain will drop your group on an empty sandbar in a national park of turquoise shallows and return for you at dusk. None of it is legal. All of it is organized, local, and discrete – and only accessible through the community, never by walking onto a random beach undressed.

The Non-Beach Angle: Where Venezuela Is World-Class
Strip the coast away and Venezuela still owns some of the most extraordinary naked-possible landscapes on Earth. The Mount Roraima trek is the crown jewel: a six-to-eight-day expedition across the Gran Sabana and up the sandstone ramp to a summit plateau at 2,800 meters, where the rock holds scattered natural bathing pools – the famous “jacuzzis” – lined with pink and white quartz and filled with rainwater that mirrors the sky. Trekking groups, deep in the middle of nowhere with zero enforcement for days in any direction, have made summit skinny-dips a quiet tradition of the route. It is the single most spectacular naturist-adjacent experience in the hemisphere, and it requires nothing but a licensed guide and six days of supplies.
In Canaima, the Angel Falls watershed offers the world’s tallest waterfall and a red-water lagoon at its base; private early-morning boat tours reach the Sapo Falls gorge and, water levels permitting, a plunge pool in the spray zone beneath the falls themselves – tours where a group alone in a canyon can decide its own dress code. And near the colonial city of Valencia, the Las Trincheras thermal springs rent private soaking rooms, one of the few “naturist by arrangement” facilities in the country.
The Reality Check: Can an American Actually Go?
Honest answer as of late 2026: not safely, and not advised. The US State Department maintains a Level 4: Do Not Travel advisory. There are no direct US flights (a DOT ban covers the routes), no visa on arrival, and the US Embassy in Caracas has been closed since 2019 – meaning a wrongful detention has no consular door to knock on. American bank cards do not work anywhere in the country; the economy runs on crisp physical US dollars, andstandard travel insurance policies exclude Venezuela outright. Relations deteriorated further in 2025 rather than improving: Chevron was ordered to wind down operations in March, and piracy and kidnapping incidents were reported off the Margarita area in 2025. Who actually visits now? Mostly Russian tourists on state-brokered charters.
The pattern to carry is Colombia inverted: in Colombia, the law is permissive and the scene is organized; in Venezuela, the geography is spectacular and the scene is organized, but the state – and the law – are the hazard. If and when the country genuinely reopens, the naturist payoff here would be the best in the Caribbean. Until then, this guide is a map of what waits behind the wall, not an invitation to climb it. If you go anyway, go clothed, go with a group, and go with Nudistas Venezolanos’ local knowledge or a licensed operator.
Practical Notes for the Intrepid
- Routes: Overnights via Bogotá, Panama City, or Curaçao into Caracas; internal flights to Los Roques and Canaima operate from Caracas.
- Season: December through April is the dry season on the coast; Roraima treks run best in the December-March window; Angel Falls need wet-season water levels (May-November) for the full experience.
- Money: Physical US dollars, small denominations, nothing else. No cards, questionable ATMs.
- The one rule: Never nude outside private or group-organized settings – in Venezuela, the risk is not a fine.
